The Vehicle Personal Property Tax, what is it, who pays it? How it effects YOU

Arlington County Virginia charges a Vehicle Personal Property Tax on any and all vehicles that are located in the county of Arlington. Have a classic car in your garage that doesn’t have an engine in it yet? You are still required to pay a yearly tax on it.

How about the vehicle that you drive to work in every day and pay a yearly tax on to the state of Virginia? Arlington doesn’t think that is enough, they want to charge you tax on it too.

Or my case, I’m here from out of state, am a Texas registered vehicle, and residence in Texas, they feel that I owe them tax as well in addition to the registration taxes from Texas.

For you commuters out there- you live in Loudoun County and work in Arlington. Loudoun also has a Vehicle Personal Property Tax. Taxed once.

You park at your office in Arlington. Taxed twice.

Virginia registration sticker? Taxed three times on the same piece of property!

Just bought the car? Don’t forget the income tax. Taxed four times!

Oh don’t forget the decal that costs right around $25 dollars per county to prove you paid the tax.

Arlington County purposefully imposes taxes that target the successful people; people achieving the American Dream of owning a house, a nice car, and a decent job. How is that? If you own a cheap car, no taxes required.

Tax laws like the ones in Arlington and Loudoun are anti-American, anti-capitalistic, restrictions on our economy that only hurt the hard-working consumer.
